Item Description
Presented by Gregory Gyllsdorff, FAGO, CHM, former Great Lakes Education Coordinator. This is a hands-on workshop for your AGO chapter will help your members learn how to study for the CAGO exam. Study preparation materials including the AGO Examination Hymn Booklet, Practice Exams for the CAGO, and a detailed copy of the Exam requirements will be given to everyone. Other materials including literature, will be available for perusal, along with guidance on how to apply for the exams. Topics to be covered include transposition, harmonizing a melody, modulation, hymn playing, solo and anthem accompaniment, literature, and registration. CAGO literature will be available for demonstration and sale. This workshop is a great opportunity for chapter members to work on improving skills in a group class setting.
Gregory Gyllsdorff serves as the Organist and Choir Master at Trinity Episcopal Church in Aurora, Illinois. He received his BFA and MFA from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He furthered his studies in France in the classes of Nadia Boulanger, André Marchal and Jean Langlais. His doctoral studies in Organ and Church Music were at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. While at Indiana University he served as an Associate Instructor, teaching Music Theory and a course in keyboard skills to graduate organ students. A winner of numerous awards for both playing and choral conducting, he earned the Choir Masters, the Associateship, and the distinguished Fellowship degrees from the American Guild of Organists. Recently, he has been contributing questions and music literature for the National AGO Certification Exams, and was recently appointed to the National Certification Committee.
