Phil Gruppuso is a lifelong woodworker who upon semi-retirement in 2014, began devoting himself full-time to studio woodworking. He currently shows his work at the Providence Art Club and Imago Gallery in Warren, RI. This chess table and chess set was executed using traditional materials and methods. The top of the table incorporates walnut burl accents and an ash and cherry chess board. There are felt-lined storage drawers on either side of the table to accommodate the chess set when not in use. The chess pieces in ash and cherry are an original design and were turned on a lathe by the artist. This chess table and chess set was recently shown in the AAM's 2021 Annual Members' Exhibition.
