Item Description

Signed Navajo Sand Painting by David Lee (1948-1996) of Sheep Springs, New Mexico. Vintage, probably early 1970's.

Sand paintings were traditionally used in healing or blessing ceremonies, created and destroyed in one day. In the late 1940s permanent sand paintings started to be made as art, using incomplete traditional symbols in a way that was not disrespectful, to share with the wider world and provide income.
