Item Description
Traditional Tapa cloth (also known as Masi) from the island of Moce in Fiji. Made from Paper Mulberry bark in an eloborate process of pounding the inner fibers of the bark, then stenciling in traditional colors of black, rust, and white. This was purchased at a Fijian market in 1973.
Condition is very good. It was once used as a wall hanging and there are some small tears along the top edge where it had been tacked to a stick. The piece was originally folded as a market item, and has retained creases, but after being displayed for awhile it has remained rolled around a tube.
Size 36" x 48"
