Item Description
The Tuskegee Airmen were a group of primarily African American military fighter and bomber pilots and airmen who fought in World War II. Before the Tuskegee Airmen, no African-American had been a U.S. military pilot. The airmen received praise for their excellent combat record earned while protecting American bombers from enemy fighters. The Tuskegee Airmen were collectively awarded a Congressional Gold Medal.
