Lovingly planted by Farmer Mark and Will Rogers students! The Opuntia ficus-indica plant can grow into a large shrub 3 meters tall. Its young cladodes (nopales) can be consumed as a vegetable and the sweet fruits (tunas) make for a coveted treat. Cultivated in Mexico, Opuntia may have been used as human food for over 9,000 years.
