Stacy Leeman earned her MFA from Rutgers University. She holds a BA from Oberlin. Her work has received awards, including grants from the Greater Columbus Arts Council and Vermont Studio Center. Brandt- Roberts Gallery, Wheelhouse Art, Rutledge Street Gallery, 530 Burns Gallery, and Bonfoey Gallery represent her work.
"Darrow's Words W12" was inspired by the history book, Arc of Justice, that describes the legal battle led by Clarence Darrow to free a black man who defended his home against a white mob in 1925. Darrow believed in the power of words to create righteousness. This work begins with the word "word" to create an underlying structure in a process akin to yoga or meditation. The ambition of these works is an attempt to prove that the language of paint can be just as potent as the language of words.
