Item Description

Growing up as the daughter of a nurse, a passion for healing and caring for others was instilled in Orange County-based artist Keren Hashalom from a young age. Always seeking to share her love of art, the self-taught painter has visited local hospitals to create art for children with disabilities. With the ocean as her overarching muse, she crafts calming beach scenes using epoxy resin and crystals to inspire hope and healing.

In this work entitled “Ocean of Hope'', however, her seascape art takes on a deeper meaning. Hashalom recently connected with a group of Ukranian children through the Mishpacha Orphanage in Ukraine. Hearing the heartbreaking stories of these young refugees urged her to take action and help share their experiences through her art. Darker tones at the top of the 8' Brawner Surfboard represent the fear and turmoil of war, mimicking how the ocean can sometimes be harsh and rough. The removable wooden train car on the beach was sent to her by a child from the orphanage and is one of the only toys he brought with him when he left home. This, along with the drawings included on the back, was donated to this fundraiser to support fellow children with Autism. Their giving nature and willingness to put other kids’ needs first prove the children’s resiliency despite their circumstances. As such, this board is an homage to their strength, and a hopeful harbinger of better and brighter futures for each of them. The colors and textures of the board were built up over eight coats of epoxy resin. Rich blues represent positive energy and intentions. Hashalom is also embedded within the sand quartz for healing, rose quartz to represent unconditional love, and amethyst for protection. This dynamic work layered with meaning symbolizes a call for peace and acts as encouragement to remain buoyant and fluid like water during challenging times.

Hashalom’s work has been exhibited in numerous shows, galleries, and charity events around the US. Follow her on Instagram @kerenfineart and view additional available art at: kerenfineart.com.
