Carolyn Johnson loves the California coastline. Her passion fuels her artistry, driving her to create beautiful, eco-conscious works celebrating the sea. Using self-developed techniques and rescued surfboards, Carolyn creates one-of-a-kind, mixed-media art, crafted to allow you to see “into” the layers below. She starts by taking surfboards destined for landfill – and then Recycles, Upcycles, and Repurposes those boards into beautiful wall art.
After transforming the boards from water-faring vessels into blank canvases (a laborious process which includes scraping wax and dirt, filling holes, sanding, and priming), the real transformation begins. Using specialized methods, Carolyn incorporates ink blends, acrylics, metallics, and resin onto the boards – all in different layers – creating emotive, textural, dimensional depictions of the ocean and coastline. Looking at a finished board is like looking into the sea itself. And, like the sea, Carolyn’s boards are a beautiful reminder of the power of reinvention. She reflects that, “just as we change in our own lives, to think about the many journeys each board has taken is very parallel. My recycled surfboards are now on a new journey - as wall art.”

Packing, shipping, and handling are not included. Boards can be picked up at The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel or the purchaser can arrange for shipping. Boards will be available for pick-up and shipping after Monday, January 2, 2023. Boards must be picked up no later than Tuesday, January 31, 2023.
