Art
Item Description
Michael Torquato de Nicola grew up making sense of the world through surfing and art. Born and raised in Orange County, California, he has never lived far from the ocean.
Michael started surfing at twelve years old and was on the US team by age nineteen. As the first pro surfer from the US team to graduate from college, he learned to negotiate between his athletic pursuits, and the business of surf. He worked with some of the industry?s top brands from Quiksilver, Hot Tuna, O'Neil and BC Surfboards to collaborate with his sponsor Spyder and design a line of wetsuits.
Michael has always designed the work on his surfboards, but it was only when he started traveling and competing internationally that his work developed into the style it is today. Painting his own boards and developing his kinetic style of storytelling through Indonesia, Samoa, The Galapagos, Iceland, Europe, Australia, Panama and Canada. His boards tell the story of his relationship with the oceans from around the globe.
Michael lives and works in Los Angeles, California.
The board is titled ?A Black Diamond in the Rough?.
