Item Description

Get the best of South Jersey history with this informative and fun package!  Included are two tickets to sail the AJ Meerwald, free admission for four to the Absecon Lighthouse, and a family membership to Tuckerton Seaport.

The AJ Meerwald is a Delaware Bay Oyster Schooner, a distinct vessel that evolved to meet the needs of the local oyster fishery. The AJ Meerwald, launched in 1928, was one of hundreds of schooners built along South Jersey’s Delaware Bay before the decline of the shipbuilding industry during the Great Depression. The AJ Meerwald embodies the true spirit of the schooner; adapted to efficiently fulfill the prevailing conditions and specific demands of her native waters. While there were once as many as five hundred schooners sailing ‘up the Bay’ to catch oysters, now there are only a handful of converted schooners still harvesting oysters.  Experience history by helping the crew hoist the sails, and learn about sailing and the local environment!  Visit their website here: https://www.bayshorecenter.org/

New Jersey's tallest lighthouse awaits you at Pacific and Rhode Island Avenues in Atlantic City.  Take an amazing journey into time and above it all as you ascend the 228 steps of the Absecon Lighthouse, one of the oldest lighthouses in the country. You'll see breathtaking views of the Atlantic City skyline and up top you'll come face-to-face with the original first-order Fresnel Lens, first lit in 1857.  The lighthouse's recent multi-million dollar restoration also includes a stunning replica of the Lightkeeper's dwelling, an educational museum, charming gift shop, Fresnel Lens exhibit in the original Oil House and expansive grounds.  View their website here: https://www.abseconlighthouse.org/

Tuckerton Seaport & Baymen's Museum is a community museum and community center occupying 40 acres located along historic Tuckerton Creek in Tuckerton, New Jersey. Tuckerton Seaport benefits from a prime location at the center of the Jersey shore, easily accessible via Exit 58 on the Garden State Parkway. Tuckerton Seaport works as a coastal cultural center to bring folklife traditions of the past and present to life through programs on land and water.  Visit their website here: https://tuckertonseaport.org/
