Item Description

Monty and Rose were a pair of Piping Plovers that nested in Chicago from 2019 through 2021. There were the first of the highly endangered species to nest in the city limits since 1948 and captivated the city by rearing seven chicks at beautiful Montrose Beach. Stone parent Bob Dolgan is donating a Monty and Rose gift pack that includes a hand-drawn watercolor map, DVDs of the two documentaries he made about Monty and Rose, a knit hat, and more. The map is printed on heavy bond paper, and dimensions are 17.8" wide by 10" tall. It features key places in the lives of Monty, Rose, and Great Lakes Piping Plovers. Fewer than 200 of these maps have been made, and only a handful remain. These items may be a perfect gift for the bird fan in your life!

"In these times when so much has to be closed, the care so many humans have taken to care and provide for a couple of small birds is a kind of reassuring signal. Life goes on. Love finds a way. Family sustains. The fate of two small piping plovers still amounts to something in this crazy world." --Scott Simon on Monty and Rose, Weekend Edition Saturday, May 9, 2020
