The Issue of Food Waste
 
Nearly 40% of the food supply in the United States is wasted, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. This is a staggering 108 billion pounds of perfectly good food that can be saved and redistributed annually. People lose out, but the planet suffers, too. Wasted food means wasted land, water, labor, packaging and fuel, not to mention food dumped in landfills produces harmful greenhouse gas and CO2 emissions.

How does perfectly good food end up going uneaten? Well, it usually has nothing to do with the quality or freshness of the food itself. At Martie, we focus on pantry staples, also known as shelf-stable food items, which have a few common reasons for getting tossed.
 
 
 
How are these prices possible?

Martie works with top brands and producers to shop their ever-changing supply of surplus pantry goods so you can get them at consistently discounted prices whenever you want (without a subscription). We look for foods we think you’d like (in other words, we shop for ourselves), that are made with ingredients we trust and would serve to our own families. After that, we sell them to you online at up to 70% off retail, pack them up in a cute green and brown box and deliver them right to your door.

Item Special Note

All orders are subject to a $.50 shipping and handling fee. This fee will be automatically added to your total purchase when the auction closes. Gift certificates will be sent via USPS or emailed if applicable. If you win an item and would like it mailed via certified insured mail, please email auction@friendsofwalgrove.com by March 23, 2023, and we will do so at your expense. If you would like to pick up an item, please contact us by March 23rd, otherwise, we will ship your item.

Larger items can be picked up in Los Angeles, CA, or shipped at the winning bidder's expense via USPS Priority Mail. $9 for large envelopes, $16 for medium boxes, $22 for large boxes. Some items do not fit into these categories and you will be notified. We will try to use the smallest package size we can. We will insure packages when shipping; however, Friends of Walgrove is not responsible for items lost in the mail.
