ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Deborah “Debbie” O’Rourke says science captured her attention and formed the backbone of her education and early career in Nuclear Physics and Metallurgical Engineering. It was not until her early twenties that Debbie began taking formal lessons in art, starting with painting on porcelain.
Smitten with painting, Debbie progressed to watercolor, then oil painting and pastels. Her latest additions have been acrylics and all of the fun mediums and textures that can be added with acrylics. Along the way she augmented her art education with a year of study at the Barnes Foundation near Philadelphia. Their extensive collection of post-impressionist and early modern paintings would become an important source of inspiration for her later work.
A painter for more than forty years, today Debbie works in almost every medium, from oils, pastels, watercolor, acrylics and gouache. Her subject matter is eclectic and includes scenes from everyday life, still life, landscapes from wherever her travels take her, plants, animals, and more. “I just always want to share the beauty that is all around me.....what captures my soul comes out in my paintings.”
Debbie is currently a member of the Arizona Pastel Association, Tucson Pastel Society, Tubac Center for the Arts, and Quail Creek Fine Arts Painting Club.
Her work can be seen at deborourke.com.
