Item Description
Mountains with Masala, 2023, acryla gouache, pencil crayon, gold mirrors, and gold beads on cradled birch panel, the diameter is 20 in with a depth of 0.75 in
Mountains with Masala represent the epitome of a second-generation East-Indian artist. One who is enamoured by Canadian land- and sky -scapes and found a way to integrate their beloved naturescapes with traditional East-Indian textile patterns and colours. Depending on your literal or figurative perspectives, the piece appears different depending on how you look at it; much like the artist and their understanding of their place between seemingly competing cultures.

Priya Gurnani, a self-taught artist, creates art that reflects her dreamscape, a haven that hosts vibrant dancing of the Aurora Borealis on mountainous stages. Priya uses ink, gouache, pencil crayons, and watercolours to capture melancholy movements and accentuates them with minimal linework, embroidery, and found botanical materials.
