Left hand Image, archived at the National Air Photo Library, was taken during Royal Canadian Air Force mapping flights in 1949, at the start of the Cold War. Right hand image was taken by the artist while with the Canadian Forces Artists Program in 2013. These were printed from the source images further developed as light boxes shown in Dark Ice at the OAG, and at the Bonavista Biennale, Newfoundland.

Image de gauche : archivée à la Photothèque nationale de l'air, a été prise lors de vols de cartographie de l'Aviation royale canadienne en 1949, au début de la guerre froide. Image de droite : prise par l'artiste dans le cadre du Programme d'aide aux artistes des Forces canadiennes en 2013. Ces images ont été imprimées à partir d’images sources, puis développées sous forme de boîtes lumineuses présentées dans Glaces obscures présentée à la GAO et à la Biennale de Bonavista de Terre-Neuve.

Leslie Reid studied at Queen’s University and at art college in England. On her return to Canada she taught for many years at the University of Ottawa, where she is now Professor Emerita. She has exhibited nationally and internationally and has received numerous grants and awards. She has had residencies in France, Norway, California, Newfoundland, and the Canadian Arctic. Her work is in the collections of the National Gallery of Canada, the Art Gallery of Ontario and in public and private collections across Canada. In August 2021 she created two installations for the Bonavista Biennale, NL. The collaborative exhibition Dark Ice with Robert Kautuk of Kangiqtugaapik, NU, curated by Rebecca Basciano at the Ottawa Art Gallery, was on view from April 22nd, 2022 to March 5th, and is now touring to Iqaluit, Winnipeg and Sarnia.
Leslie Reid a fait ses études à l'Université Queen's et à l’école des beaux-arts en Angleterre. À son retour au Canada elle a enseigné pendant de nombreuses années à l'Université d'Ottawa, où elle est maintenant professeure émérite. Elle a exposé à l’échelle nationale et internationales, et a reçu de nombreuses bourses et prix. Elle a été artiste en résidence en France, Norvège, Californie, Terre-Neuve et l’Arctique canadien. Ses œuvres font partie des collections du Musée des beaux-arts du Canada, le Musée des beaux-arts de l’Ontario, et dans des collections publiques et privées dans tout le Canada. En 2021 elle a présenté deux installations pour la Biennale de Bonavista, Terre-Neuve. L’exposition Glaces obscures, en collaboration avec le photographe Robert Kautuk de Kangiqtugaapik, Nunavut, avec commissaire Rebecca Basciano à la Galerie d’art d’Ottawa, en exposition de 22 avril 2022 à 5 mars 2023, est maintenant en route à Iqaluit et après à Winnipeg et Sarnia.
