Item Description
Tangerine, 2023, ink & acrylic on canvas, 12 in x 12 in
‘Tangerine’ was heavily inspired by colour, family and nature. The bright, saturated orange evokes certain tastes and smells, and so to me, my work is multi-sensory and yet simplistic in its sharply defined, linear style. The citrusy palette brought back happy memories of drinking Sunny D at my grandmother’s house as a child, and I could practically taste it with each brush stroke. Florals and botanicals are a prominent feature in my work, as I find them calming and evocative of simpler times, an antidote for a troubling world. They function as a reminder of time spent at my grandfather’s greenhouse during my childhood, and of the flowers my mother would pick from her garden and spread across our home when I was growing up. I hope to evoke similar feelings from viewers with this piece.
