Pandemic Bubbles, 2023, hand-dyed cotton fabrics, batting, thread, 26 in x 26 in

Inspired by the “social bubbles” created during the pandemic, these cozy, soft, connected bubbles represent the support and care provided by the people with whom you created close ties with during times of isolation. The fabrics are hand-dyed and the colours represent care, hope and joy.

During the pandemic people reached out to others and showed “love and care” by checking in regularly, dropping off meals at your doorstep, perhaps stopping in for a chat or catching up on zoom, or found other ways to help out one another.

“Pandemic Bubbles” are hand-made, hand-dyed and sewn “bubbles” that represent love and care.

Ces bulles douces et entrelacées représentent le soutien et les soins apportés par les personnes avec lesquelles vous avez tissé des liens étroits pendant les périodes d'isolement en référence aux bulles sociales créées pendant la pandémie. Les couleurs représentent l'attention, l'espoir et la joie et les tissus sont teints à la main.

Pendant la pandémie, les gens ont tendu la main aux autres et ont fait preuve d'amour et d'attention en prenant régulièrement de leurs nouvelles, en déposant des repas, en s'arrêtant un peu pour discuter, en rattrapant le temps perdu sur le Zoom, ou en trouvant d'autres moyens de s'entraider.

Item Special Note

Anne Wanda Tessier is a Canadian artist who works with a variety of mediums including painting, printmaking, and ceramics. Whether she is using a paintbrush on canvas, ink on paper or creating with clay, there are common elements and themes in her work. Her works focus on repetition of patterns, texts, shapes, objects, and use of colour. Anne is inspired with our connection to our environment as well as our relationship to one another. Her work tends to focus on the positive and our inter-connectedness. She likes to use traditional mediums that allow her to work slowly and mindfully and incorporates what she sees and hears around her. Her works are reminders of our existence, our experiences, our thoughts and remind us of what it’s like to be human. 

Inspired by the pandemic, Anne’s recent works focus on the ways people have offered care and support for one another during the past three years. Many people have suffered in varying degrees during the pandemic. Some people felt lonely, many have felt anxious, stressed, or overwhelmed.  In Anne’s recent works, she has used fibres, printmaking, and ceramics to create series of works on the positive side of human nature and how people have offered love and care to help support one another.

Anne Wanda Tessier est une artiste canadienne qui travaille différentes techniques, particulièrement la peinture, la gravure et la céramique. On retrouve des éléments et des thèmes communs dans ses œuvres, qu’elles soient faites au pinceau sur une toile, à l'encre sur du papier ou avec de l'argile. Elle se concentrent sur la répétition de motifs, de textes, de formes, d'objets et aussi sur la couleur. Son travail parle de l’existence humaine et de nos expériences et nos pensées. Inspirées par la pandémie, ses œuvres récentes portent sur la façon dont les gens se sont soignés et soutenus au cours des trois dernières années.
