Item Description
Artist: Barbara Bowker
Though I was a fine arts major in college, I didn’t begin painting seriously until 2019. When I found a collection of paintings at an exhibit in Concord, I was inspired, and have been painting steadily since. My work has sold at Muzio, a shop/gallery in Essex, MA, and I post new work on Instagram: barbarabowkerpaintings
It’s a real privilege to be participating in this event. It’s been a challenge, and a lot of fun! The whale has two sides:
“Washed Up”
After trying out a few concepts, I decided to freeze a frame in a video of a wave breaking, and paint it from a child’s perspective. We all remember feeling the power of the surf and getting washed up on shore!
“If Hopper Painted Stage Harbor Light”
After taking a walking tour of Edward Hopper’s painting sites in Gloucester, and decided to recreate his painting “The Long Leg” that’s familiar to most of us, but with Stage Harbor Light in the background.
Item Special Note
This whale is painted on both sides and is approximately 58" x 15"
It can be displayed indoors or outdoors, but would probably be happier indoors.
It can be shipped.
