Item Description
Reach beautiful new heights with a winning bid on this stunning hand-made giraffe stained glass!
Stained glass art uses pieces of glass to form a mosaic like pattern and finished pieces are generally used as wall hangings, windows or lamps. A piece of stained glass artwork begins as a pattern on a paper. The pattern is transferred to the glass, scored, and cut using special glass cutters. Each cut piece is then ground with a diamond bit to smooth the edges and creates a surface that is more conducive to the next step, which is affixing a copper foil around the edge of each piece. The next stage is to solder each of the pieces together to bind the pattern and then the finished product is framed, a patina is applied, and finally the piece is waxed to both preserve and create a shine when buffed.
This piece was designed and created by Roger Williams Park Zoo Trustee and lifelong "crafter", Cindy Erickson. As this form of art requires a significant amount of concentration, Cindy enjoys the projects as a wonderful way to pass the time, leave the stress and worries of life behind, and to create something that others can enjoy for years to come.
