Artist Bio:
Takashi Kawai, father of two Oakwood High School alumni, is a retired architect currently living in the Dayton area with his wife, Kazumi. Fulfilling one of his lifelong desires, the home they live in is one he designed himself about two decades ago. Upon his retirement from his career as an architect, he was able to return to his love of art in all forms; woodworking, drawing and pottery. While he has enjoyed woodworking and drawing his entire life, pottery is something he became interested in and mastered just in the last decade. Beginning with classes offered by Rosewood Arts Center in Kettering, he has since apprenticed with lifelong potters in Japan to learn more and find his niche. If he isn't working on a request from family, he is working on sculptures and design pieces that you will find both in and outside his home.
