Item Description
"Aluminum Cod" by Amy Egelja
Medium: Recycled Soda Cans
Size: 19" x 8"
Artist Statement:
This cod is made from over a dozen aluminum cans that have been deconstructed and cut into individual pieces to make up the body of the fish. Using a recycled material, like aluminum, illustrates how simple materials can be transformed into sculptural forms. The materiality of the aluminum echos the way a fish's scales might reflect underwater: each scale catching the light as it moves. To recycle a material that would otherwise be thrown away is to reinvent an object. In this way, this cod speaks to the ways in which we consume products, and asks that we put more time into creative problem solving.
