Artist Statement:

I strive to use the most sustainable materials possible in all of my creative endeavors. For this project, I challenged myself to only use the leftover materials I had on hand. Since I am a textile artist, I had plenty of fabric scraps to utilize: from Indian silks to sequined embroideries to the bright cottons I used to sew my children's own baby clothes. I chose to adorn my cod in the style of glass mosaics, which I've always appreciated as an art but only done myself before as a hobby. I found that when I stiffened my leftover scraps of fabric with glue, I could cut the fabric in a way that mimicked the intentionally imperfect shapes of cut glass tiles. I knew I wanted to make a colorful cod with certain symbols that are characteristic of my usual textile creations, but the design took on a life of its own as the colorful tiles were cut and placed.

Artist Biography:

Sally Marcy's passion for textiles developed at an early age. Raised in a family of artists and sewing enthusiasts, she had access to an abundance of scrap fabrics and enjoyed experimenting with a variety of sewing projects throughout her childhood. As a young adult, her love of travel and culture amplified her interest in textiles. From Belgium to India, she was exposed to everything from lace making to block printing and acquired a collection of beautiful and unique fabrics.

Item Special Note

Pick-up of purchased cods will be July 9 from 12-3, July 10 from 3-6, and July 11 from 3-6 at Sagan Harborside Sothebys 1 Essex St, Marblehead. The winning bidder will receive a notification email with information on pick-up time and location.

If winning bidder requires shipping, winner's credit card will be charged a separate $24.95 fee to cover USPS ground and handling. Shipping is available within the U.S. only and must be requested within 7 days after receipt of the notification email.

If winning bidder has not picked up their cod (or arranged shipping) within 30 days after the close of the auction, it will become the property of Marblehead Festival of Arts, Inc.
