Item Description

AZANIAN BRIDGES, Nick Wood's debut SF Novel, is set in a resilient apartheid (alternative now) South Africa. Shortlisted for 4 major awards, including the inaugural NOMMOS African SF Awards. Number 53 of 100 copies and signed by the author.

Sadly, Nick Wood passed away shortly after donating this book for the SFWA Auction.

Per his obituary in Locus, Nicholas Wood was born in 1961 in Kitwe, Zambia (then Northern Rhodesia), and grew up in South Africa and the US before settling in the UK. He began to publish SF with "African Shadows" (as Nicholas Wood) in 1999, and made his first professional sale to Interzone with "God in the Box" (2003). His debut novella, young-adult The Stone Chameleon, appeared in 2004. Some of his short fiction was collected in Learning Monkey and Crocodile (2019). First novel Azanian Bridges (2016) was a finalist for the Campbell Memorial, Sidewise, and British Science Fiction Awards. His latest novel is Water Must Fall (2020). He was instrumental in organizing the DisCon III program stream devoted to speculative fiction by Africans along with Oghenechovwe Donald Ekpeki.
