Item Description

About this quilt, from Dawn:

"It was made using a technique called "Crumb Quilting" where you take scraps of fabric and begin sewing pieces together, snipping and adding more pieces until you have pieces large enough to cut into squares. As you sew and cut, sometimes you lose pieces of fabric altogether. Sometimes you end up with tiny little pieces barely visible, while other times, you have something larger.

While making this quilt, I couldn't help but compare crumb quilting with the poem, The Weaver. Each piece of fabric could represent parts of our lives: people, places, and things that have helped mold us into who we are today. The tiniest pieces, barely visible, represent the small things that are buried in our memory, still part of the puzzle, but maybe not important. The larger pieces are those people and memories worth saving. All of them combined are part of the fabric of our lives. We do not know God's plan for us, and until our day has come to meet Him, we will not know God sees the finished "quilt"; we only see all the loose ends.

For this reason, there is one square in the center of this quilt which was purposely sewn the wrong side up - to represent what we see (an unfinished person). Remember, though, that God sees the beauty of the finished product, good or bad, happy or sad. He is with us always.

The quilt is also made with denim made from other people's jeans. Jeans that have been worn and loved by various people. Jeans that needed a new purpose.

Holding all those pieces together are words of Faith and Hope and Love and Belief For those who have had severe illnesses such as cancer, these are the things that keep us striving to live our lives as best as we can, to live life until it is our time to be called to Heaven.

Bordered on the edges with star fabric and on the back, represents the celestial Heavens above, our God (your God), whatever your faith may be. Every detail of this quilt was made with a purpose, to show you that life is worth living, that every person, place, or thing that happens in life is meant to shape us and that we can have hope in the lowest of times.

The recipient of this quilt will be wrapped in Love, Hope, and Faith.

Item Special Note

Dawn made this quilt, hoping to raise money for the ACPMP Research Foundation. She made this quilt with the symbolic amber color (representing appendix cancer awareness) on the borders and in the stars.
