Item Description

Miniature Mata Ortiz Vase Set - Duck and Rabbit Designs

Traditional miniature vase pottery set from Mata Ortiz, Chihuahua, Mexico. One vase has ducks and the other has rabbits. Each vase is brown with black-brown duck or rabbit designs. Both are signed by the artist, Angel Villa, who comes from a family of multi-generational pottery artists.

Mata Ortiz pottery is a recreation of the Mogollon pottery found in and around the archeological site of Casas Grandes (Paquimé) in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. Named after the modern town of Mata Ortiz, which is near the archeological site, the style was propagated by Juan Quezada Celado.
