Borderlandia tour guide, Alex La Pierre, leads this walking tour of Nogales, Arizona, which is divided into different districts each with its own interpretive theme. There are approximately 2 miles of walking including some grades of hills like historic Crawford Ave.
CRAWFORD AVE. (Geography of Nogales)
The residential architecture here dates back to more than 100 years ago as well as to gain a vantage point to go over the geography of the binational city.
DENNIS DECONCINI GATE (Border History & Contemporary Border Issues)
Here, the group will explore the main border gate of Nogales and the historic U.S. Customs house. Also includes is an overview of the Mexican Revolutionary war history in Nogales and its battles as well as the ports of entry.
HISTORIC MORLEY AVE. STREETSCAPE (Economic and Transportation heritage of Nogales)
Morley Avenue is the most important commercial and historical street in Nogales with diverse architectural styles.
MURALS (Street art and modern Nogales)
The group will visit some of the new vibrant community murals as well as view the 1904 Historic Nogales Courthouse and the 1917 Bowman Hotel recently revitalized into senior residences.
