Glass is one of the most difficult surfaces to capture on canvas, and the artist shows exceptional talent in her technique. Susan Casanova grew up in Mexico City, daughter of the artist, Frank Casanova. Many of her experiences in Mexico have influenced what and how she creates her compositions. She hopes her work will evoke memories of found and forgotten items.
Casanova began painting as a child in her father’s studio in Mexico. After moving to the United States in 1986, Casanova attended art classes at UC Berkely and Mount Diablo College in the Bay Area. After moving to Southern California, Casanova began working in oil with Leon Okun and Varvara Agabekova and was inspired to focus on Still Life paintings, created from object from her life in Mexico that had been handed down through generations of artists.
