Item Description

18"L, 21"L including handles, 8.25"H, 8.5"W. The artist often describes her style as Tele-Halling (a combination of Telemark and Hallingdal elements). This painted trunk includes the following information on the inside lid: "The name Sleipnir (slayp-near) is based in Norse Mythology. He is an eight-legged horse primarily ridden by the god Odin. The horse is depicited as incredibly swift with the eight legs that could carry his rider anywhere in the nine realms of the cosmos. He also appears in Icelandic folklore, as he has said to have created the canyon Asbyrgi with his massive hooves." Back of trunk is signed by artist. Artist: Barb Wolter, Vesterheim Gold Medal rosemaler.
