Item Description

Bowl measures 2.25"H, 13" Dia., Serving Set measures 10"L, 2.5"W. "Norwegians Across the Sea" blue fused glass salad bowl with four Viking ships and gold details. Bowl was handmade by the artist at the Glen Echo Art Park Art Glass Center in Maryland, where the artist has created fused glass pieces for more than 10 years. Christine's great grandparents were early immigrants from Norway. Her work is being enjoyed in several US states, and overseas in Switzerland, Denmark and France. Christine likes to create usable "functional" glass art, so that those who own her glass can enjoy their pieces for more than just the sunshine through the glass. The deep blue bowl was formed from a single sheet of Bullseye streaky glass in transparent Caribbean Blue and White. The four Viking ships sailing on the sea were individually shaped and placed around the outer edge of the bowl and finally gold was added to embellish each ship. The artist writes, "The Viking ships are intended to emphasize the country of our ancestors, rather than the time period of travel." Signed and dated by artist on bottom, 2023. Artist: Christine Tuve Burris, Studio Artist Glen Echo Art Glass Center. The bowl is enhanced by the inclusion of two Konge-Tinn Norwegian pewter salad servers. This pattern has been manufactured since 1958 and depicts the legendary Viking Kings.
