Item Description
Enjoy an exciting sail on a tall ship and learn about maritime heritage and the art of sailing a traditionally rigged ship. You can get involved by helping the crew hoist sails and coil lines if you choose.
The Matthew Turner is the newest ship in Call of the Sea's fleet and was designed after the ship Galilee, which was built in the late 1800s by the ship designer and builder Matthew Turner. Matthew Turner is docked at the Bay Model Visitor Center's Pier in Sausalito, CA. The ship measures 132 feet long (with over 100 feet of deck) and was constructed over a seven year period with Douglas Fir, Oregon White Oak, and bronze fastenings, completed in 2013.
Call of the Sea is an educational non-profit organization that connects people to the sea and maritime traditions. They aim to increase coastal access and empower people of all backgrounds through experiential and environmental education on the water.
