Charmaine Sharon Bayntun CSB                               2024

My interest in art and painting began early in life and was nurtured throughout  school.  I completed a Bachelor of Art Education at UBC, studying with Sam Black (painting), Bob Steele (drawing) and Penny Goldstone (textiles). Unfortunately, the year I graduated was the year the Ministry of Education and provincial government axed all the fine arts special programs at the elementary school level.  I had to remove all reference to my art background from my resume in order to get a position as a classroom teacher! I did enjoy nurturing my students’ artistic abilities whenever possible even though long work hours and raising a family left little time for my own interests. My last decade of work was as a school administrator and my last position was as the principal of Burnaby’s only Fine Arts school. Upon retiring, my husband and I moved to Gibsons in 2013. I was deeply inspired by the many fine artists on the Sunshine Coast and was constantly awed by what I saw. It was with great pleasure that I renewed my love for the visual and was able to indulge in personal development

as an artist. I have enjoyed being part of the Sunshine Coast Art Crawl since 2015; from 2016 until 2023 I was grateful to be a part of the Landing Artists group.  Now it is my pleasure to be included here with other coast artists.

I “walk with my eyes”.  My goal is to have you, the viewer, see what I saw that made me stop and take note.  We left the coast in 2022, briefly and in a moment of madness, to live back in the big city for 10 months before hightailing it back “home” to Gibsons. We are so very glad to be here on the coast!
