On January 1, 2003, Jimmy Dimora began his second term as Cuyahoga County Commissioner. Commissioner Dimora has worked hard to help simplify county government and make it more understandable as well as accessible to all citizens who need assistance. He now has 33 years of public service in Cuyahoga County. Commissioner Dimora considers representing the citizens of Cuyahoga County an honor, and he hopes to earn their respect as he continues his career as Cuyahoga County Commissioner.

As County Commissioner, Jimmy Dimora manages a $1.3 billion dollar budget. Commissioner Dimora oversees sixteen departments with over 9,000 employees. Funds are spent on social services, welfare-to-work programs, workforce development, children & family services, judicial costs, health & nutrition services, senior & adult services, general government, health & safety issues, public works, solid waste management, economic development, county planning commission, debt service, and other miscellaneous services.

Commissioner Dimora served as President of the Board of Cuyahoga County Commissioners for the year 2001 and has been elected President once again for the year 2003. He served as Vice President of the Board of Commissioners in 2002. He is currently Chair of Cuyahoga County's Investment Advisory Committee and has served as Vice Chairman of the Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District. He has been a member of the Board of Revision for Cuyahoga County. Commissioner Dimora has been a Member of the Governing Board to N.O.A.C.A. (Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency). In 1999 and 2000, he served as Chairman of the Solid Waste District and as Chairman of the Criminal Justice Services Supervisory Board. In 2003, Commissioner Dimora will once again chair the Criminal Justice Services Supervisory Board.

Jimmy Dimora served as Mayor of the City of Bedford Heights from 1982 through 1998. He had been re-elected without opposition to four consecutive terms. Prior to his tenure as Mayor, he served as Council-at-Large for four years and was a city employee for six years. As Mayor, he instituted new programs and expanded services, all without raising property taxes or city income taxes. The Multi-Community Minor Misdemeanant Facility and the expansion of the full service jail were completed, which now serve as models for other cities to emulate across the state. Another project was the Bedford Heights Community Center, which was extensively renovated and expanded, making it one of the largest and best-equipped recreational facilities of its kind in the State of Ohio. In 2000, the City of Bedford Heights recognized his years of dedication by bestowing a great honor on Commissioner Dimora. The Community Center was renamed The Jimmy Dimora Community Center.

Born in 1955, Commissioner Dimora has been a resident of Cuyahoga County his entire life. He graduated from Bedford High School in 1973. Commissioner Dimora and his wife Lori have been married for twenty-two years and are the proud parents of three children: Anthony, Joe, and Lisa. A concerned and dedicated public official, Commissioner Dimora is actively involved in many civic and charitable organizations, including current and/or past leadership roles in United Way, Shoes for Kids, and the Southeast YMCA. He currently serves on the Harvest for Hunger Committee.

Commissioner Dimora currently serves as Chairman of the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party and has been in that position since February, 1994. He served as a past Member of the Board of Trustees of the University Hospitals Health System--Bedford Medical Center for ten years. He was past President of the Cuyahoga County Mayors and City Managers Association, a bi-partisan organization of mutual interest to local elected officials. This organization is comprised of fifty-seven communities; and as Mayor, he had served as Secretary, Treasurer, and Vice-President. From 1993 to 1998, Commissioner Dimora was Board Member of the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections. As a Board Member, he monitored the entire election process of Cuyahoga County. During this time, the Board of Elections implemented reforms that resulted in problem-free elections throughout his term. Commissioner Dimora also completed a three-year term on the District One (Cuyahoga County) Public Works Integrating Committee, which oversees implementation of the State Issue #2 program. Through these vast and varied experiences, Commissioner Dimora has gained valuable knowledge and familiarity of issues of concern to citizens throughout Cuyahoga County.

Commissioner Dimora has always been people-oriented. He is well known for his common sense approach to projects and his sound judgment. He is a problem solver, not a problem maker. He realizes the direct effect elected and appointed public officials have on the daily lives of the people they represent. In this era of cynical regard of political leaders, Commissioner Dimora considers being in public life an honor and a challenge. He hopes to continue to earn the respect of the citizens who have re-elected him to office.
