Item Description

Rimas Jasin is the Executive Director of the Cuyahoga branch of the American Cancer Society, the only national, community-based organization fighting cancer on all of the major fronts: research, education, advocacy and service.

A life-long resident of Northeastern Ohio, Mr. Jasin has committed his life work to enhancing the breadth, depth and quality of programs and services available in the Greater Cleveland area. Whether it's the diagnosis of cancer or the overwhelming challenges of caring for the frail elderly, Mr. Jasin's ability to marshal local talent, energy and resources has made a significant impact in many vital areas.

Mr. Jasin conceived, designed and spearheaded the first levy specifically for older adults in Northeastern Ohio -- resulting in a tremendous expansion of services for the elderly of Lake County. His work as the head of Alzheimer's Association and on local boards like the Long Term Care Ombudsman has enhanced the quality of care for cognitively impaired adults.

Currently, Mr. Jasin is working with the energetic staff and dedicated volunteers of the American Cancer Society to insure that the national organization's 2015 goals are achieved. By 2015, the American Cancer Society's vision is to see:

A 50% increase in the number of people who survive after a cancer diagnosis

25% fewer new cases of cancer

A measurable improvement in the quality of life for all those diagnosed.

In order to achieve these vital goals, the entire community needs to be rallied in a manner that effectively capitalizes on the wonderful research, healthcare, education, business and philanthropic resources that Cleveland is known for.

Mr. Jasin has over twenty years of experience in nonprofit management. He has been the Executive Director of a number of local agencies, including the Alzheimer's Association, the Lake County Council on Aging, and Alta House. Mr. Jasin has a Masters Degree in Human Services from John Caroll University, as well as a Masters in Public Administration from Cleveland State University. He has served on numerous boards, including the Lake County Chambers of Commerce, Breckenridge Village, and the United Way's Council of Agency Executives.
