Committed to improving the safety and quality of life in neighborhoods, building a more vibrant downtown, creating and retaining jobs in the city, and building partnerships to solve community challenges, the Mayor has vowed to make Columbus the best city in the nation to live, work and raise a family. Mayor Michael B. Coleman took office on January 1, 2000. Prior to becoming mayor, Coleman served as President of Columbus City Council from 1/6/97-11/29/99, and as a Council member from 2/3/92-12/31/99.
