Dr. Bessie House is an Award-Winning Author and Poet, Television Show Host, Motivational Speaker, Professor and Administrator at Kent State University, and an entrepreneur. She is President and CEO of B. House Communications, Inc., a consulting company that she founded in 2002. She is also the Executive Director and Founder of the Center for the Study and Development of Minority Businesses. The purpose of the Center is to promote economic self-sufficiency and minority entrepreneurship in the United States.

She is also the Director of the recently established Entrepreneurial Academy in the Empowerment Zone of the City of Cleveland. The purpose of this academy is to provide business assistance and training to individuals who wish to develop their own business enterprises.

She is also the host of her own socially provocative and creative new television show entitled, "Let's Talk Business". This show provides cutting edge information on the latest research, trends, and issues in the world of business, entrepreneurship, and economic development. It also provides basic, hands-on information on how to achieve success in the business world in the present and the future. The show airs on the Village Community Television, channel 20.

Dr. House's research has focused primary attention on economic and political development in Africa and the United States. She has published three books, numerous scholarly articles, and book chapters, some of which have examined economic development and entrepreneurship. Her latest book, "Confronting the Odds: African American Entrepreneurship in Cleveland, Ohio" is the recent recipient of the coveted Henry Howe Book Award from the Ohio Genealogical Society. According to the Reverend Jesse L. Jackson, Sr., who wrote the forward for this book, "Confronting the Odds....is important as a historical background and as a policy manual for anyone seriously interested in African American business development and the critical role it must play not only in the American economy but in the future of America as a land where equal opportunity is real in theory and in practice."

Because of the popularity of the book and the very positive sentiment it has received, the book went into its second printing in less than ten months after it was first released. Dr. House was recently selected as an "Honored Writer" by the Poets' and Writers' League of Greater Cleveland. She is in the process of writing her fourth book entitled, Psychological Capital: The Ten Personality Characteristics of Successful Black Entrepreneurs.
