Melodie Mayberry Stewart Ph.D, Chief Technology Officer, is responsible for developing, implementing and supporting Information Technology (IT) strategies to improve government services for the City of Cleveland. Her challenge is to produce an IT-savvy government that uses the latest technology to become operational, efficient, and effective.

A native Clevelander, Chief Mayberry-Stewart is the founder and CEO of the Black Diamond IT Consulting Group, LLC, an Information Technology Consulting company. She has more than 25 years of IT experience and works with CEOs, COOs and CIOs to develop IT strategy and build high-performance IT organizations to improve organizational performance.

Chief Mayberry-Stewart was the first African American female General Manager and Vice President of Corporate and Shared Services for worldwide delivery of IT systems and operations for the BP Amoco Corporation, where she had global responsibility for the design and implementation of IT systems and services.

Prior to joining BP Amoco, Chief Mayberry-Stewart was the first and only Black female Chief Information Officer (CIO) in the health care industry in the country. She was the CIO at Beth Israel Medical Center, with headquarters in New York City with more than $1 billion in revenues annually.

Holding many professional memberships, Chief Mayberry-Stewart is the past National Chairman of the National Black MBA Association. She is currently a National Director of the National Girl Scouts of America and a Foundation Trustee of Pine Forge Institute. She has been selected to Who's Who of Women Executives and 2,000 Notable Women. She has also been featured in Ebony Magazine as one of its "100 Most Promising Corporate Women." And, she is a recipient of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund Women of Achievement Award.

Chief Mayberry-Stewart graduated cum laude with a double major in Business Administration and Sociology from Union College. She received a Master of Arts degree in Sociological Research and Statistics from the University of Nebraska; a Master of Business Administration degree in Finance from Pepperdine University; and a Master of Arts degree in Executive Management from Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, Calif. Further, she is the first African American to receive a Doctorate in Information Technology Management from the prestigious Peter F. Drucker Executive Management Center of the Claremont Graduate University.

Chief Mayberry-Stewart has one son, George, who lives in New York. She loves golf, fine art collecting, and the performing arts. As a product of the Cleveland public school system, she is delighted to return home be close to her mother, Marie Hague, and many other close relatives and friends.
