Brian Tucker was named publisher and editorial director of Crain's Cleveland Business in 1988 after nearly four years as the business newspaper's editor. As publisher, Mr. Tucker has overall responsibility for editorial, production, circulation, promotion and sales operations. In 1990, he was named vice president of Crain Communications Inc., which owns Crain's Cleveland Business and nearly 30 other publications in the U.S. and Europe.

Mr. Tucker came to Crain's Cleveland Business after a six-year career with The Associated Press, most recently as assistant bureau chief in charge of news operations in the Los Angeles bureau. There Mr. Tucker oversaw a 60-person editorial staff in Southern California and Southern Nevada. He served as liaison between the Los Angeles bureau and AP's main press center operations during the 1984 Summer Olympics and helped direct AP's California coverage of the 1984 presidential election. Mr. Tucker also held supervisory posts at AP bureaus in San Francisco, Cleveland, Grand Rapids, and Detroit. A native of Conneaut, Ohio, and a graduate of Kent State University, Mr. Tucker began his career with three years as a sportswriter for daily newspapers in Ohio and Tampa, Florida. He than was editor of a weekly newspaper and city hall reporter at a daily newspaper in Marquette, Michigan, before joining The Associated Press.

Mr. Tucker has won reporting and editorial writing awards from The Press Club of Cleveland, The Associated Press and United Press International. In December, 1995, he was honored by Kent State University as that institution's Distinguished Alumnus for 1995 and 1996. In the fall of 1987, Mr. Tucker was appointed by U.S. Secretary of Commerce C. William Verity to a four-year term on the Northern Ohio District Export Council and serves on its executive committee. He was subsequently appointed to a second term by Commerce Secretary Barbara Hackman Franklin and was named the Council's vice chairman. He was most recently appointed in 1996 to a third term by Secretary Mickey Kantor. He is involved in a myriad of other professional and civic activities.
