Item Description

Bid to win two prime tickets (3rd row center, Row C, Seats 103 & 104) to Mozart's Die Zauberflote (The Magic Flute) at the Metropolitan Opera for Saturday evening, February 24, 2007. In the summer of 1791 Mozart started working on an opera to be performed at a small theater run by an old friend, Emmanuel Schikaneder, who wrote the libretto of The Magic Flute and who also sang the role of Papageno. Although he had to interrupt work on this "Singspiel" (a popular form of entertainment in which musical numbers alternated with dialogue) for other commissions, he nevertheless composed some of his most sublime music for the story that includes both Masonic references and the tale of Tamino in his quest for love and enlightenment. Many thanks to Frank & Renee Pansini for this generous donation.
