Item Description
Montpelier, the home of President James Madison and his wife Dolly, sits on a 2,750-acre estate, near the Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains, that includes farmland, racecourses, a terraced two-acre formal garden, a panoramic landscape, a National Landmark Forest, active archaeological sites, and more than 130 buildings, including the main house. In October 2003 the Montpelier Foundation announced plans to restore the Montpelier mansion to the home that James and Dolley knew in the 1820s, and today we are in the final phases of this awe inspiring undertaking.
This amazing package offers a very special behind-the-scenes tour of Montpelier with the President of the Montpelier Foundation, followed by a wine tour at Barboursville Vineyards and lunch at Palladio Restaurant, and a charming overnight stay at the elegant Mayhurst Inn.
