Item Description

Here is a beautiful large color original print photograph of the old doctor's quarters at the U.S. Marine Hospital in Louisville, KY which was on the National Trust's 11 Most Endangered Places List for 2003. Constructed in 1851 by an act of Congress, Louisville's United States Marine Hospital served the community and the nation faithfully for more than a century. Designed by famed architect Robert Mills, America's first native-born professional architect, the 3-story Greek Revival structure addressed the pressing health needs of seamen on the Western inland waterways; later, it was used as a military hospital during the Civil War.
Photographer Shelley Zatsky is doing a photographic series of the 11 Most Endangered Places. She photographs sites that are renovated, in state of disrepair or, unfortunately, no longer standing. Shelley Zatsky's plans are to produce her series of photographs into a book. Her artistic photographs of these neglected sites bring to life their inner beauty and help to remind us of their historic significance.
GREAT GIFT IDEA: This would make a great gift for a large wall, home or office.
