Item Description
Take an exclusive 2-3 hour tour for up to 8 people of the famous Philip Johnson's Glass House. A new National Trust Historic Site, this unique home is currently closed to the public, so this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. As a souvenir of your visit, you will be presented with a copy (one) of "Philip Johnson: The Architect In His Own Words" signed by the author, Hilary Lewis.
Philip Johnson's Glass House was a remarkable achievement when it was completed in 1949. Inspired by the plans of Mies van der Rohe's Farnsworth House in Illinois, its exterior walls are of glass with no interior walls touching the exterior, a radical departure from houses of the time. It began a fifty-year odyssey of architectural experimentation in forms, materials, and ideas. In 1986, Philip Johnson gave the Glass House to the National Trust as a life estate. Following his death in early 2005, the National Trust began preparations to open the site to the public for visitation in April 2007.
