Stadium trivia: Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium, informally known as RFK Stadium, is a professional sports stadium that opened in the fall of 1961. Originally called D.C. Stadium, it served as home to the Washington Senators of Major League Baseball from 1962 through 1971. It also served the Washington Redskins, from 1961 until 1996, when they moved to FedExField in suburban Maryland. Now home of the Washington Nationals and D.C. United (soccer), this stadium has hosted soccer matches in the (men's) 1994 World Cup and 2003 Women's World Cup, and the 1962 and 1969 baseball All-Star games. Because of its location in the nation's capital, U.S. Presidents have traditionally opened each season by throwing out the first ball. The fourth oldest existing stadium, it seats over 56,000 (for soccer/football games), and has a 3-1/2 acre natural grass playing field.
