With the growing prison population, it's hard for me to believe that young children are not being fitted for the last piece of clothing they will ever wear. Prisons are even built to resemble the poor neighborhoods we grow up in -- or our neighborhoods are built to resemble prisons. The piece does not blame society, it does however ask the question: why does America's youth naturally do so well adjusting to prisons versus leading productive lives as free men? This is the one institution that is mad easy to get into - you don't need to graduate high school, you don't need SAT scores, and your body will earn money from American tax payers just as you waste away for the rest of your life. All children are welcome...it's sad, and that is why I depicted a crying man with clinched handcuffed fists. Look at the little boy, he doesn't understand why he is in the oversized jail uniform. He doesn't like it, but how will he avoid it?
