Item Special Note
Imagine being in a place that from the time you wake up in the morning until the second you fall asleep at night constant reminders show you how worthless you are and how meaningless your life has been. A place with little warmth; kindness is a word with no meaning. You are still as alive as ever, yet the outside world sees you as a non-person who is without a voice, without the right to feel, love or even dream of the future. Until 2 and a half years ago, music was a reprieve from insanity and despair. When the music programs were eliminated I discovered an interest in painting. Painting allowed me to continue searching inward and outward to find what interests, motivates, troubles or challenges me and make it part of the inspiration to share with others. Painting vividly portrays beauty and emotional content, provokes thought and dialogue, and allows sharing of life without requiring physical proximity. "Fall Colors" was painted with acrylic paints on parachute cloth and is a form of escape for me. I cannot see the beauty on the "outside" but I will always feel it and desire it back. Paintings are so much more than just the depiction of objects within. Every person sees, feels, and experiences something different when observing art. Our art truly does imitate life: the life we desire, the love we need, the support and help we are seeking and the ability to share expression beyond the bars and walls that divide us.
