The piece of art I'm submitting is titled "Mother Earth's Revenge." There is a story behind it. A few years ago a new administration took over this prison. They made a lot of changes. One of these was to uproot a flowerbed full of iris. Two years later a single iris re-appeared despite our flower hating administration and this year it actually bloomed. Everyday a prisoner waters this plant on his way out to the exercise yard. Truth be known, there's probably about 20 or 30 guys that water the thing. I did some research. (I'm a horticulturist by trade) and figured out that this particular iris is a hybrid named "Mother Earth." It's a somewhat washed out, dirty looking flower as far as irises go, which is somehow fitting. But to the guys in here it's beautiful. Even more so, as it seems to be thumbing its nose at the administration.
