Item Description
Background
This is Sterling’s first release of a vineyard designated wine, representing the culmination of ten years of strenuous farming experience on the steep northern face of the Mayacamas Mountain Range near Calistoga in the Napa Valley. Grapes for this Cabernet Sauvignon were planted at heights of up to 1,700 feet in well-drained, volcanic ash and gravelly clay loam soil. Stressful conditions on the mountain increase tannin and fruit intensity in the finished wine, increasing its ageability and setting it apart from other vineyard lots.
Winemakers Notes
A powerful, aromatic wine: deep ruby, full bodied, earthy, with hints of cassis in the nose. Following a 7-day fermentation period, it was aged for two more years in Nevers French Oak barrels. A light fining with egg whites has softened the tannins, but the wine will remain big and mountain-style throughout its long life.Item Special Note
