About Archway to Lattice II
Looking through an arch on a sunny terrace in Otranto reminded me of my long-time theme, the repetition of paint strokes. Repetition becomes a way to alter the original state of the subject, to make something abstract out of what singly would be merely concrete and to give it rhythm.
Marthe Keller has exhibited internationally since 1974. Her paintings are represented in public collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY, the San José Museum of Art, CA, the British Museum, London, the Museum of Modern Art, NY and the Whitney Museum, NY among others. Her most recent exhibition, Material Sign, at the Florence Lynch Gallery, Chelsea, NY, 2007 was curated by Stephen Westfall for 4 artists.
The Material Sign by Aaron Yassin, an on-line review in artcritical.com .
Keller has contributed her own writings to vols 4 and 5 of the American Abstract Artists Journal, NY and she is
Co-Director of the Otranto Summer Arts Residency, Otranto, Italy.
