Item Description
Thurman Munson may be gone, but he will never be forgotten by Yankees fans who loved his tenacious spirit and incredible talent as a catcher and hitter. Munson, who spent his entire career with the Yankees, won AL Rookie of the Year honors in 1970 and the AL MVP Award in 1976, was named the first Yankees captain since Lou Gehrig and led the Bombers to World Series Championships in 1977 and 1978. Munson died tragically and prematurely at age 32 in a plane crash on August 2, 1979. His number, 15, was retired almost immediately and even today there is an empty locker in the Yankees' clubhouse that bears his number. Legendary artist Leroy Neiman, who specializes in sports figures, has commemorated Munson in this lithograph that has been framed and signed by Bobby Murcer, Lou Pinella, Ron Guidry, Rich "Goose" Gossage, Sparky Lyle and Graig Nettles, who were Munson's teammates and among his closest friends. A Steiner Sports Certificate of Authenticity is included.
