Pioneering grapegrower, Richard Sanford, of Alma Rosa Winery and Vineyards, along with Bryan Hope, of Sustainable Vine Wine Tours of Santa Barbara, will conduct a fascinating eco-oriented wine tour for eight people, consisting of a relaxing drive through the area's gorgeous vineyards and countryside, a visit to a local winery and a discussion of sustainable agricultural, including biodynamic and organic viticulture. Following the tour, there will be a tasting of the delicious Alma Rosa wines, along with an organic picnic lunch at Alma Rosa. And, for a perfect ending to a delightful day, guests will take home a bottle of their favorite Alma Rosa wine. Over 35 years ago, Richard Sanford was the first to recognize the potential of the Santa Rita Hills and the first to plant Pinot Noir. Richard and his wife Thekla, initially with their eponymous winery and now with Alma Rosa have long been committed to sustainable agriculture and a higher degree of environmental stewardship, all the while producing award-winning wines. Listen to Richard passionately share his knowledge of and experience with sustainable agricultural practices, as well as the rich history of the Santa Rita Hills and what he envisions for the AVA's future. Bryan Hope's Sustainable Vine Wine Tours will provide luxurious door-to-door service from Santa Barbara to Alma Rosa for eight people in a biodiesel-powered Mercedes van. Hope's company, offering an eco-friendly twist on wine touring and tasting, has only been in operation for several months, but has already met with great success and received many accolades.
